Beauty is an Australian Shepherd/Black Lab mix. We were united when
she was six weeks old. She is now 14 years old. She has been having
more and more problems as she has aged.
Several times a month, she would be unable to get her back feet
under herself to get up on her own. I would have to lift her back
hips for her and make sure her feet were under her before letting
her continue on her own. We had stopped our walks altogether because
she was so uncomfortable. She would drag behind going out and coming
back, and we only walked about a quarter of a mile. My friend Mary
recommended using the Bio-Pulse pulsing magnetic field therapy system.
The first thing I noticed
after starting to use the Bio-Pulse was that my dog's appetite improved
immensely. She had been skipping meals altogether, leaving her food
untouched. Now, she eats with gusto whatever I will give her, if
she likes it. The next thing I noticed, that mattered a great deal
to me, was that I no longer have to help her get up after she has
been lying down for a while.
Now we can walk 1/2-1 mile, and she trots happily just ahead of me exploring
and sniffing our
path.
Now, I remove the Bio-Pulse
from between the mattresses after each use. Figure it has a better
chance of not getting stepped on when neices and nephews come to
visit. Today, she
finished her supper and came into the room and stood by her bed. I welcomed
her in and encouraged her to make herself comfortable. She just looked at me,
trying to convey her thoughts. I wasn't getting it. Then she took her nose
and pushed it under her foam pad that lays atop her crib mattress. She has
never, ever done that before. She has watched me raise the mattress to place
the Bio-Pulse and remove it. I slipped it back into place and turned it on,
and she happily climbed onto her bed and curled atop the Bio-Pulse. I've started
to notice that she centers herself on the 'coils'. We used to do a 1/2 hour
in the morning and a 1/2 at night because she had a problem with incontinence
the first time we did a whole hour. She was so embarrassed, she would not get
on it again without being commanded to. Now she is able to enjoy a whole hour
all at once and it does seem to make a difference.
Her appetite continues to
improve. She asked to play ball today. Her cataracts make it difficult
for her to focus on where the ball is (she used to be able to catch
it in mid air) but she happily played for over 20 minutes. I don't
remember the last time she did that.
For the first time, in I don't know how long, I watched her hop up on her back
feet instead of having to rock herself onto them. Wonderful to see.
Now when she finishes her dinner she stands by her bed and stares
at me until I get up and slip in the coils and turn it on. She then
curls up, first on one side and then the other for the next 2 hours.
(She has one side that hurts more than the other and avoided laying
on it, until now.)
Last weekend my brother's dog knocked over my dog. She
limped for the next few
days. However, the day after it happened, I put her on the Bio-pulse a good
part of the day. Instead of taking weeks to recover, she was back to herself
by Wednesday. Today, she slipped on the steps into the house. When this used
to happen, she would yelp and limp terribly for the rest of the day. Not today.
Today, she was real impressed with herself but she did not yelp or limp. Now,
all this wonderful stuff is not to say that she isn't stiff from the arthritis
in her legs or that she isn't uncomfortable when first starting to walk after
lying down for a time, or that
she doesn't have bad days. However, because of the Bio-pulse I no longer wonder
if this is the week I should put her down. I look at her now and think we might
easily have another year or two. And they will be happy years because her playfulness
has returned.
Black Beauty turned 17 at the beginning of April 2006,
almost unheard of for a dog of her size. For the last
several months, we have been able to take four
half-mile walks a day. This past week, however, we cut
back to two half-mile walks. It's getting too warm for
our late morning and afternoon walks. Her arthritis is
slowly gaining ground, but I know without a doubt that
if it were not for the Bio-Pulse, I would have had to
put her down long before now.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Sincerely,
Judy and BB
